My First Car 1966 Buick Skylark

Updated: Jul 7, 2022

My 1966 Buick Skylark 2 door coupe was my very first ever car.

Man what memories I've had with this car.

It was given to me by my stepdad as a senior graduation present and is how and what got me going in modifying cars. 🥰

It wasn't pretty when I first got it and needed a ton of work. The original color was a metallic green 🤢🤮 and needed a makeover badly.

Aside from it being a daily driver my stepdad helped me install a cam into the car for better performance and later I had a dual exhaust put on with an H pipe from a muffler shop next door from my job at McDonalds. 😂😁

The engine was a 340 cubic inch V8 with a 2 speer PowerGlide transmission but the gearing final drive was an extremely low 2.86 final drive which was good for the highway but not good for performance. 🤷

Some pics.

After a couple of years of abusing the Buick I decided to restore the car as I now had a job working offshore in the oil industry making good money.

So as I worked a week offshore and had a week home I set out to go to a body shop technical school form the time I had off and put the Buick I to the shop to begin work restoring the car.

4 years later she looked amazing with the midnight blue Imron paint job and I can say I did 90% of the work to get her there.

She drove great and was a sweet ride until having the car parked at work in a lot in South Louisiana and a freak February winter storm with a 6 foot tidal surge completely flooding the car. 😭😔

There was nothing I could do with it after the flood. I sold it on the spot for $160 and literally cried for days.

More pics.

So this now would lead me to my second car a brand new off the showroom floor 1983 Honda Civic hatchback. 🤗😁

Thanks for looking.
